Digital8 tapes are usually marked 'Digital8' or 'D8', and they were only recorded on specific Sony camcorders (model numbers starting with DCR). If you are unsure, send the tapes to us and we will identify the format before starting any transfer.
Yes. Digital8 uses the DV codec at 25 Mbps, which produces a noticeably sharper and more stable image than analogue Hi8. The colour is more accurate, there are no tracking issues, and copies can be made without generational loss. It is essentially Mini-DV quality on a Hi8-sized cassette.
Yes. Send everything in one order. We identify each format and use the appropriate transfer method: FireWire for Digital8, analogue capture for Hi8 and Video8. You do not need to sort them yourself.
