Photographic slides, also known as transparencies or reversal film, were the format of choice for serious amateur photographers from the 1940s right through to the early 2000s. Unlike negatives, a slide shows the image in its correct positive colours when held up to the light or projected onto a screen. Kodachrome, Ektachrome, and Fujichrome were the dominant film stocks, and each had its own distinctive colour character that photographers knew and loved.

No. Send the entire carousel and we will remove, scan, and replace each slide in its original slot. This keeps your slides in order and saves you a tedious job.
Yes. Colour shifting is very common in Ektachrome and Fujichrome slides as the dyes fade at different rates. We apply careful digital colour correction to restore the natural white balance as closely as possible. Kodachrome slides are more stable and usually retain their colour well even after decades.
Usually, yes. A slide holds the full resolution of the original film, which is significantly more detail than a standard 6x4 print ever showed. Scanning the slide produces a sharper, richer image with better colour than scanning the print.
We primarily scan 35mm mounted slides, which make up the vast majority of collections. If you have medium format (120) transparencies, contact us before sending and we can discuss the best approach.
However works best for you. If they are in carousels, trays, or boxes, send them as they are. We process them in the order received and return them the same way. If a specific order matters to you, numbering the mounts with a felt pen is the simplest approach.
Glass mounts provide excellent protection for the film but are heavier and more fragile during shipping. We handle them carefully on the scanner. Pack them with extra padding between each slide to prevent cracking in transit.
