Photography Digitisation

Physical photographs, slides, and negatives are constantly reacting with their environment. Daylight fades colour dyes, humidity encourages mould and foxing, and the chemicals within the emulsion continue to break down over decades. Colour prints from the 1970s and 1980s are particularly vulnerable, and many have already developed a strong yellow or magenta cast that will only worsen. Slides lose their vibrant colour as the reversal dyes shift. Negatives curl, stick to their sleeves, and develop fungal spots. And unlike a tape, which can at least be partially recovered even in poor condition, a damaged photograph is often permanently lost. There is no second take. Digitising your photographs creates an exact, high-resolution copy that will never fade, never yellow, and can be backed up in multiple locations. A flood, fire, or house move might destroy the originals, but the digital files survive. The best time to scan was years ago; the second best time is now.
