Convert VHS & Video Tapes to Digital

Yes. If your tape is snapped, chewed, or the shell is cracked, we can splice the ribbon or re-shell the tape mechanism before digitising. Minor repairs like these are included in our service at no extra cost. For more severe damage, such as tapes that have been exposed to water, heat, or heavy mould, we will assess the tape and let you know what is possible before proceeding.

In most cases, yes. Our professional decks are far more forgiving than domestic VCRs and can handle tapes with tracking issues, minor dropout, and weakened tape tension that would jam or destroy a home machine. If a tape turns out to be completely blank or degraded beyond recovery, we will let you know and you will not be charged for that tape.

We focus on home movies and personal recordings. If a tape contains six hours of recorded television programmes, we will generally skip that content and only digitise the personal footage (birthdays, weddings, holidays) found on the same tape. If you specifically want TV recordings transferred for personal archival, let us know and we can discuss your options.

VHS is a standard-definition format. It was never high-definition, and no transfer service can change that. What we can do is extract the best possible picture from your tapes using professional decks with time base correction and S-Video output, which produces noticeably sharper, more stable results than a consumer VCR ever could. The output is a clean, colour-corrected MP4 file that looks surprisingly good on modern screens.
