The compact cassette was introduced by Philips in 1963, but it truly hit its stride in the late 1970s and became the portable audio format of an entire generation. Mixtapes, voice letters sent to relatives abroad, recordings of grandparents telling stories, wedding speeches captured on a pocket recorder. Cassettes hold an extraordinary range of personal audio that simply does not exist anywhere else.

Audio Cassette to Digital: Your Questions
Yes. Each layer of recording overwrites the previous one, so what we capture is whatever was last recorded on the tape. You may occasionally hear faint traces of a previous recording underneath, known as incomplete erasure, but the dominant recording will be clear.
To some extent, yes. Many home recordings were made on machines with poor head alignment, which cuts the high frequencies and produces a dull, muffled sound. Our Nakamichi decks have adjustable azimuth, which lets us fine-tune the playback head angle to recover as much clarity as the tape allows. The improvement can be quite noticeable.
It matters for playback quality, and we handle all types. Type I (ferric) is the most common. Type II (chrome) and Type IV (metal) offer better frequency response and lower noise. Our decks detect the cassette type and apply the correct bias and equalisation settings automatically.
Yes. We transfer both Side A and Side B and deliver them as separate files so you can easily find the content you need.
Stretched tape causes speed fluctuations known as wow and flutter. We apply digital speed correction to stabilise the playback as much as possible. The improvement is usually significant, though severely stretched sections may still have some audible wavering.
We can, but our service is designed for personal recordings, voice recordings, and irreplaceable content. Commercially recorded music is widely available through streaming services, so we encourage customers to focus on content that cannot be replaced.
