Yes. By default we split each cassette into Side A and Side B as separate files. If there are clear gaps between songs or sections, we can split further into individual tracks so you end up with a neatly organised set of files rather than one continuous block of audio. Just let us know what you prefer when you place your order.

Speed fluctuations, known as wow and flutter, are common in ageing tapes, especially those recorded on cheap machines or stored in warm environments. Our professional decks have extremely consistent motor speed, which eliminates a lot of the wobble at the playback stage. For tapes with more severe pitch problems, we apply digital speed correction to stabilise the audio as much as possible.

Not at all. We will identify the correct tape speed (1⅞, 3¾, 7½, or 15 inches per second) and track configuration (mono, half-track stereo, quarter-track stereo) for each reel. Getting these settings right is essential for a proper transfer, and it is something we check carefully before committing to a full playback.

The digital files will be a faithful capture of what is on the tape, with careful noise reduction to take the edge off tape hiss without killing the character of the recording. We cannot add information that was never there, but playing the tape on properly calibrated professional equipment and capturing at high resolution does reveal detail and warmth that a worn home cassette player simply misses.
