By default, yes. We scan the reel as a continuous sequence and deliver it as a single file. If you would prefer us to split it into separate clips at the splice points, just let us know when you place your order and we can arrange that.

We inspect every splice before scanning and reinforce any that look fragile. Old cement splices can crack, and adhesive tape joins dry out over time. Reinforcing them takes a few minutes per splice but prevents breakage during the scanning pass.

That vinegar smell is a sign of acetate base deterioration, known as vinegar syndrome. It does not necessarily mean the film is unwatchable, but it indicates the base is breaking down. We can still scan most affected reels, though severely degraded film may be brittle and harder to handle safely.

We focus on faithful digitisation rather than editing. If your film has a magnetic sound stripe, we will capture that audio. For silent films, we deliver the footage as-is. Adding music or titles is something you can do easily afterwards in any basic video editor.

Usually, yes. Some curl and buckle is common in older film, particularly if it has been stored in dry conditions. Our scanner can handle moderate curl. Severely buckled film may need to be gently humidified and flattened before scanning, which we handle in-house.
